What are your hobbies? As a high school senior, awaiting college responses, my current hobby is stalking the mailman and highlighting sections of “How to Survive Getting into College”. Other than that, I love to immerse myself in the worlds of Jane Austen and Stephanie Myers. I enjoy reading series that cover years of a character’s life so that you really get to know them. I also am a collector of lame jokes; the lamer, the better. Somewhere I heard that we laugh when our brain is surprised…maybe because I’m normally a very analytical thinker, when I hear a lame joke, I just think it’s the funniest thing ever! It’s great because my friends, family and even teachers are always finding new jokes to pass on to me. One of my favorites is “Why did the tomato blush?....It saw the salad dressing!” |
List 3 qualities that you would like to be known for. I would like to be known as…
Optimistic. I believe that within any situation, you can find a positive. You may have to look really hard, but trust me it is there.
Ambitious. It is my ambition combined with my optimism that has caused a forward momentum in my life; creating positive changes within myself and my cmmunity.
A Red Star. Without my Red Star family I would not be the young woman I am today. Our team motto “Hard Work Pays Off” doesn’t apply just to baton; it epitomizes my life. Thank you Mrs. H. |
What is your major in college / what interests you most in school? I’m looking forward to majoring in Chemistry or Biochemistry with the goal of becoming a physician. I was fortunate to have a wonderful teacher who introduced the subject of chemistry to me with such enthusiasm that I couldn’t help but become an enthusiast myself. I especially like how chemistry goes hand in hand with my other favorite subject, math! |
How has pageantry affected your life? I started competing in scholarship pageants when I was twelve years old. At that impressionable age, pageantry helped me gain focus and opened my eyes to the things that are important in life. I learned early that it’s not about beauty; pageantry is about working hard in school, serving your community, continually crafting your talent and being a role model. As the New Hampshire Preteen, I received national recognition for my fundraising efforts on behalf of the New Hampshire flood victims. My title of New Hampshire Junior National Teenager furthered my service efforts in my community when I partnered with the Red Cross to start TLC (Teens Learning CPR) at my middle school. With academics and community service accounting for 30% of the score, my 3rd Runner-Up placement at the national competition made me very proud. My pageant participation continued as I joined the Miss New Hampshire’s Outstanding Teen program. During my four years of competing I continued to strive towards my goals formed by my pageantry experience, winning the 2009 Academic Merit award, the 2006 & 2007 Community Service award, and the 1st Runner-Up spot in 2008. However, the effects of pageantry upon my life have extended beyond competitions and into my high school career culminating with the BHS Colby College Book award and the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen award. Although appreciated, I mainly value these accolades because they show that I am on target with my life goals. |
