What has been the most fun, craziest, or unique job you have ever had? For the past four summers I have been scooping ice cream at Lago’s Ice Cream in Rye, New Hampshire. While from the outside the job may seem dull and simple, Lago’s itself is a fun and chaotic place to work. A single shift here can consist of frappe explosions, sprinkle spills, flavor mishaps, and more. As an employee, I am able to interact with customers of all ages, handing perfect Banana Splits out the window and seeing a customer grin ear to ear at the size of it, or explaining delicious flavors such as Cow Pie, Charlie Brownie, and Bovine So Fine. While customer relationships are always interesting here, the friendships and bonds created among scoopers add to the great Lago’s atmosphere.

If you had to give one piece of advice to the younger generation what would it be? In the second grade, when my classmates and I made mistakes on our math and spelling assignments, my teacher would always chime in with, “Mistakes are for learning!” Then, I only applied her words to my elementary school assignments. Now I have come to recognize them as vital words to live by. Following this quote, I have tried many new things that I would not have if I feared making a mistake. I encourage the younger generation to follow the words I heard so often from my second grade teacher and recognize that, from mistakes, something important is always waiting to be learned.

Describe your favorite vacation. This past year my family and I traveled to Walt Disney World. Nothing can describe the thrill of walking into a place as magical and enchanting as Disney. Here, I was able to spend a carefree week with the people I love the most, riding rides, watching fireworks, and enjoying the beautiful scenery: from Cinderella’s Castle, to the exquisite, detailed gardens. At the end of the week, while I was sad to leave, I was also left with great memories of the “Wonderful World of Disney.”

What is your greatest achievement? At my Senior Class Day I was awarded the Walter A. Borkowski Principal’s Award, awarded to the “student who had the greatest positive impact on the total High School Environment and exhibited characteristics of leadership and school spirit and demonstrating the ability to help all students feel that they are an integral part of the school.” I felt so honored to have received such a meaningful award and consider it by far my greatest achievement yet.
