What is something people would be surprised to know about you? My family and friends know that I am very interested in the medical field but something most people would be surprised to know about me is that I almost applied to college for Paleontology instead. It is hard to think about the fact that all the information we have about dinosaurs was collected from studying their bones. I think it is fascinating and its something I would love to study. Ever since I did the dinosaur rock in kindergarten and watched the Land Before Time over and over again I have developed a small dinosaur obsession. I even sewed orange pipe cleaners onto a green sweatshirt and danced around as I am sure I dinosaur would in the UNH Dance Showcase. And I am still mourning the loss of our beloved childhood friend the Brontosaurus who has now been named the Apatosaurus and has a new head. |
What would you say has been your greatest experience? My greatest experience has been getting hands on training for my EMT-Basic and CPR/First Aid teaching certification. For the first time as an undergrad taking classes I felt like I was learning something that I could actually use to help someone in need. It is my first step into the actual medical field and I am looking forward to the experiences I will have and the knowledge I will gain. With this training I feel like I am stepping away from being a college student and into the real world. |
What are your hobbies? I have always had a stressful workload with school and work so I when I started to become more involved in the dance world I latched onto it as a form of stress relief. I enjoy going to the studio and jumping around trying new things and strengthening my body. It makes me feel good about my body and myself. Dance has made me the outgoing adventurous person I am today and could not imagine my life without it. I have mainly focused on ballet, pointe, and lyrical dance but I also enjoy going to a jazz class once and awhile for a good laugh since I have an inability to shake my hips. Recently I have started aerial dance and it is absolutely amazing. It has made me so strong and I love the adrenaline rush I get while up in the air. To me there is nothing better than spending time in the studio with friends dancing your hearts out. |
Tell about a goal you have. My goal is to never be satisfied with what I know. I am at a stage in my life where I can take everything I have learned as an undergrad and apply it to life and see how to make it better. I am always looking to see what other classes I can take or who I can talk to and expand my realm of knowledge and training. I am currently an EMT-Basic and it has been one of my most rewarding experiences; but I am counting down the days till I can start taking classes to become an EMT-Intermediate, then a Paramedic, until I become a physician assistant or doctor. I graduate in May and have already looked into taking classes in sign language over the summer as a postgraduate. Our understanding of the world is always changing and I do not want to be left behind. I want to always have the drive to read about the newest research and see how it pertains to my life. |
