Local Title: Miss Winnipesaukee

Emily Hughes of Gilmanton is Miss New Hampshire 2006. She competed as Miss Winnipesaukee in the 60th Annual Miss New Hampshire Scholarship Program Saturday night, April 29, 2006. A 23-year-old graduate of the University of New Hampshire, she holds both a Bachelor of Science degree in Family Studies and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. She earned Summa Cum Laude distinction in her Master’s degree program and graduated Cum Laude with her B.S. She plans to obtain a second Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and teach at the elementary level before going into School Administration.

Emily's platform is "Character Education: Every School, Every Child.” Emily performed a tap dance to “Neutron Dance” during the talent competition.

Emily currently serves as an Advisor for Manchester’s Community of Caring Program, and was past president of UNH’s Circle K international (a Kiwanis affiliate for college students), Business Manager of the Durham Campus Activities Board, and has also served as a dance instructor and choreographer for Broadway North School for the Performing Arts.

Emily traveled to Costa Rica and has visited 30 of the U.S. states. She has interned at the Gilford New Hampshire Fire & Rescue Department. She once mustered enough courage to take a flight lesson, is an avid walker, and is the proud owner of two schnauzer dogs, Jake and Nick!

Last year Emily worked as a intern in the Bedford School District. She has served as an Ad Representative at the Concord Monitor, and as a Souvenir Store Manager at the New Hampshire International Speedway.
